Project brief
- Project name: Developing and advancing Seasonal Predictability of Arctic Sea ice (SPARSE)
- Project duration: 1 October 2016 - 31 March 2020
- Funding agency: Research Council of Norway
- Project number: 254765/E10
Project objectives
SPARSE is a research project funded by the Research Council of Norway through Klimaforsk program.
The main objectives of SPARSE are,
- To develop seasonal prediction systems and assess their predictabilities for Arctic sea ice using
- statistical model
- regional ROMS-CICE
- NorESM
- To advancing seasonal predictability of Arctic sea ice through
- data assimilation with more accurate and reliable information about the ocean and sea ice state
- physics refinement with particular emphasis on representation of snow melt and melt ponds,
as well as radiation scheme improvement
