Model results:
- Results from a simulation using the Miami Isopycnic
Coordinate Ocean Model (MICOM; Bleck and Boudra, 1986) coupled
to NERSC's Hibler ice model. The simulation has a resolution
of approximately 20 km in the Nordic Seas for the period
1958-present; from NERSC.
- Results from a simulation using the Navy's Layered Ocean
Model (NLOM; Wallcraft, 1991) with a resolution of 1/16° for
the period 1979-present; from the Naval Research Laboratory
(NRL), Stennis, MS, USA. Results will be studied for a
subdomain within the North Atlantic Ocean from a semi-global
run.
Satellite and other remote sensing data:
- Gridded sea level altimeter data for the North Atlantic
Ocean from the Modular Ocean Data Assimilation System (MODAS;
Fox et al., 1992) for the period 1993-present; from NRL.
- Gridded sea level data for regions adjacent to the
Iceland-Faroe-Shetland-Scotland ridge for the period
1992-present; from Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
- Ice cover data for the Arctic Ocean from passive microwave
data (SMMR and SSM/I) for the period 1978-2000; from NERSC.
- Ice thickness data from upward-looking sonar for the
period 198?-present(?); from the UK and US Navy.
In situ ocean and ice data:
- Hydrography from CTD casts for regions adjacent to the
Iceland-Faroe-Shetland-Scotland ridge for the period
1992-present; from Nordic WOCE and the EU project "Variability
of Exchanges in the Northern Seas".
- Hydrography from the "Svinøy section" (62°22'N,
05°12'E to 64°44'N on the prime median), for the
period 1978-present; from UiB GFI.
- Hydrography from Russian sections "5S" along 63°00'N, and
"6S" along 65°45'N in the Norwegian Sea; for the period
1949-present during May/June.
- Current measurements from the "Svinøy section" in the
southern Norwegian Sea, for the period 1995-present; from UiB
GFI.
- Current measurements from the Iceland-Scotland ridge, for
the period 1997-1999; from the EU project "Variability of
Exchanges in the Northern Seas".
- Ice thickness data from drifting ice stations for the
period 1972-present; from Russian sources.
- River-run-off data from the major Siberian rivers for the
period 1950-present; from Russian sources.
- Oceanographic data from the Artic Sea and the Greenland
Sea; from Russian sources.
Atmospheric data:
- Reanalyzed atmospheric flux data for the period
1958-present; from NCEP/NCAR. The data set is global and
results for an appropriate subdomain will be studied.
- Atmospheric data for the period 1979-present (reanalysis
product for 1979-1994, operational product for 1995-present);
from ECMWF. The data set is global and results for an
appropriate subdomain will be studied.
