During a webserver upgrade we have now removed the "printerfriendly" pages.
Jun. 19. 2009
Part of the ERA-interim dataset from ECMWF is now avalable on the national storage facility NorStore. An overview can be found on the Data Archive pages.
Nov. 17. 2006
NoSerC will move all files on the /noserc2 disk on the SGI computers gridur/embla/balder to the new AIX high performance computer njord. The transfer will start on December 1., and will be completed within 2-3 weeks. Writing to /noserc2 will no longer be allowed after December 1. Reading may continue until the SGI computers are no longer available.

Users are urged to obtain user accounts on njord in order to have continued access to NoSerC data. See http://www.notur.no/quotas/apply/useraccount.html.

More results from RegClim dynamic downscaling based on SRES A2 and B2 model runs, are now available on the Effect Research pages. These results comprise graphical maps for selected surface weather parameters, and ASCII data for downloading for a selected geographical area covering the Nordic countries.

New data have been added to the ERA-40 dataset during the last six months. A new dataset, ECMWF_OPER, representing the operational data produced by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) has been added to the NoSerC data archive. All these data are searchable through the MetaMod application, which is now fully up to date.

There has recently been problems connected to data transfers between the /noserc2 disk and external computers through the gridur/embla computers. Use of sftp or scp directly to the /noserc2 disk has created severe operational problems for gridur/embla. Use of gridur/embla for such data transfer work is therefore no longer allowed.

Another computer (balder.ntnu.no) has been set up for data transfer work to/from the /noserc2 disk. We urge all users to use this machine. The same copying tools are available on this computer (scp/sftp or ftp for some subdomains). The /noserc2 disk is also mounted on balder, and copying should be done directly to/from the /noserc2 disk. Using balder will also improve stability and transfer performance for the user.

All users on gridur/embla also have accounts on balder. Passwords may be different, if they recently have been changed on gridur/embla. If you have problems connecting to balder, please contact NOTUR user support.

A tool for converting from netCDF format to FELT (the proprietary met.no format) is now available on /noserc2/extdata/felles/bin. The name of the tool is nctofelt. More information can be found in the Format Conversion ... -> nctofelt page.

More data from the ERA40 dataset is now available on the NoSerC storage system. This include main parameters (geopotential, divergence, vorticity, temperature and specific humidity) at the 23 pressure levels, as well as many surface or single level parameters. An overview can be found in the Datasets stored -> ERA40 page. The MetaMod application gives details about all available files.
Feb. 2. 2004
The /noserc1 directory is no longer available on gridur, see earlier news.
Jan. 23. 2004
The re-structuring of the NoSerC storage system is now completed. All files are now found under the /noserc2 directory tree. Users should from now on only use /noserc2, both for reading and writing.

The /noserc1 directory tree will still be available (ONLY FOR READING) for some days, so the users have time to correct scripts etc. The final deadline for access to the /noserc1 directory is set to January 30. From this date the /noserc1 directory will no longer be available.

The /noserc1 disks will later be reformatted and incorporated into the /noserc2 directory hierarchy.

The /noserc2 storage system is divided into several volumes, where each volume has a maximum capacity. The following excerpt from the output from a 'df -k' command on gridur shows the available volumes and their maximum sizes:

max (KB) used (KB) free (KB)

Users should keep an eye on the utilisation of the volumes, and eventually contact NoSerC in advance of large file transfers, if more storage space is needed.
